Inside the Sacks

One of my requirements for this project, and future games, is to create all assets with open source solutions whenever possible. That meant in addition to learning Unity and C#, I needed to take up Inkscape, Musescore, and re-learn Gimp, Blender and Audacity.

While making the brain shift from Creative Suite to Inkscape and Gimp has been a bit of a challenge, on the plus side, I might actually like learning C# thanks to Unity.  Unity Carl, if you ever see this, thanks a ton for your beginner Unity Learning series, by far the best on Unity Learn.

We wanted to literally make everything from scratch, but some items were impossible (e.g. train whistle) or super time consuming for us to make with our current resources. Thankfully there are great people out there willing to give noobs a little help! Below are the additional assets that appear in the CatSacks demo from these great creators!

EasySave 3 – wow, just wow. When I realized how big I would need to make my save engine, I was a little panicked. Thankfully I learned of Easy Save on the Unity forums. This is a lifesaver and the main developer is super helpful, responsive and patient. Just a great guy in general.

Additional music clips (level one/world one & map) from John Leonard French. Please check out his music and amazing developer advice!

Extra sound effects and some UI Icons (i.e. white mouse hand/arrow) from the wonderful Kenney!

I’ll keep this list updated and will also have credits in game for any assets that stay in the full game. Thank you so much!
